The main goal of our project of the Dictionary of the Contemporary Russian Migrant Language in Germany has been to provide a descriptive presentation of current transitional / transformational processes occurring in the Russian language spoken in Germany, with the prime focus on lexical borrowings.

From the onset of the most recent wave of migration (around the end of the 1980s) Germany has become home to some 5 million Russian-speaking migrants from the former Soviet Union.  Their use of Russian has undergone noticeable transformation that is best illustrated by their adoption of German words and, to some extent, sentence structures into their speech.

Our Dictionary (compiled in the Russian language and with a preface explaining in detail its structure) presents over 550 most commonly used borrowings.  Each entry contains extensive information about all the relevant parameters of the given borrowing (i.e., grammatical, morphological, etc.) as well as the source word or phrase in German and / or a translation into standard Russian.  Furthermore, one or several examples of use are provided for each entry.

Our Dictionary may be of a special interest for you if...
▪ you possess sufficient knowledge of Russian and have a professional interest or simply a liking for the Russian sociolinguistics,
▪ you are a speaker of Russian would like to know more about what is happening with the Russian language in the Diaspora in Germany,
and, of course, if you are looking for a special little present for your Russian-speaking friends!

The following pages (in Russian) present a short (demo) online-version of the Dictionary so as to offer the visitors of our web site the opportunity to get acquainted with the Dictionary, its structure and content. The full print or PDF-version contains over 550 entries.
